IGNOU Project Submission Checklist: Approval, Final Report, Viva and Proof to Keep

Ankush

Quick answer

Before submitting an IGNOU project, check the exact programme and project course guideline. Confirm whether synopsis approval is required, whether the final report follows the approved topic, which forms/signatures must be included, whether submission is online or through another route, and whether a viva or separate evaluation component applies. Keep the final file and submission acknowledgement after you submit.

End-to-end project submission checklist

  1. Confirm the project course code.
Use the course code in your current programme record and project guideline.
  2. Check the proposal/synopsis stage.
If your programme requires approval, keep the written approval and make sure the final work follows the approved topic or the rule for any approved change.
  3. Check the final report structure.
Use the course-specific guideline for chapters, forms, declarations, guide details and required certificates.
  4. Check signatures and dates.
Where the guideline requires student/guide signatures, approval forms or originality declarations, make sure they are complete before scanning.
  5. Check the submission route for the current session.
IGNOU’s online project instructions can change by session. Use the current official upload page or the route stated for your programme.
  6. Check separate evaluation components.
If your course includes viva, practical or another component, confirm how and when that part is handled.
  7. Keep proof after submission.
Save the final report, acknowledgement and any payment/form record linked to the submission.

If you are submitting a project online

IGNOU’s June 2026 online project instructions tell learners to upload the report in a single PDF for one subject/course, keep pages clear and readable, maintain correct page order/orientation, and place correct learner/course details on the first page. The instructions also say that programme-required proposal approval, synopsis, guide biodata and originality documents should be incorporated where applicable.

Final file check Why it matters
Correct title, enrolment, programme, RC and course code Helps the report match the learner record
Single readable PDF where required Prevents broken or incomplete upload sets
Pages in correct order and orientation Makes evaluation possible without missing pages
Required forms/signatures included Some programmes require approval/originality/guide documents
Final PDF saved locally Lets you prove exactly what was submitted

Do not assume synopsis approval is universal

MMPP-001 requires synopsis approval before the project work is taken up. MCSP-232 also uses a proposal approval process. Other IGNOU project courses may use different forms and routes. Always read the exact project guideline for your programme.

Check whether a viva is a separate component

Some project courses include a separate viva. For example, IGNOU’s current BCA_NEW programme guide identifies BCSP-165 as having Project Report and Viva-Voce evaluation components. That does not mean every IGNOU project uses the same viva rule.

  1. Your course guideline lists viva?
Keep track of both the project report and viva requirements.
  2. No viva mentioned?
Do not add one because another programme has it.
  3. Unclear?
Check the current programme/project guideline or Regional Centre instruction before submission.

What proof should you keep after submission?

  • The exact final project PDF or a complete copy of the physical report.
  • Synopsis approval and evaluator communication, where required.
  • Submission acknowledgement, receipt or portal reference.
  • Payment acknowledgement where a project/practical evaluation fee applies.
  • Any later viva or project-status record required by your programme.

If the project marks later do not appear, this proof helps you separate a submission problem from an evaluation/Grade Card problem.

Check your exact project course

Use the IGNOU Projects catalogue to find the correct course page. MBA learners can check MMPP-001; BCA_NEW learners can check BCSP-165. For more process help, browse IGNOU Guides.

Common questions

Can I submit the final report before synopsis approval?

Only if your programme does not require prior approval. For courses such as MMPP-001, approval is required before the project work proceeds.

Does every IGNOU project have a viva?

No. Viva requirements are programme/course-specific. Check the current project guideline.
