IGNOU Assignment Submitted but Marks Not Showing: Status vs Grade Card
Quick answer
If you submitted an IGNOU assignment but the marks are not showing, check three separate things: your submission proof, the official marks transmission status, and the Grade Card. A submission receipt proves that you handed in the work. The transmission page shows whether marks or grades have been sent by the Study Centre or Regional Centre after evaluation. The Grade Card is where the academic record is finally reflected.
First, separate submission from marks update
Students often use the words “submitted”, “updated” and “shown in Grade Card” as if they mean the same thing. They do not.
- Submitted
You gave the assignment to the correct Study Centre or used the submission method officially allowed for your course. Keep the acknowledgement, receipt, email or portal proof you received. - Evaluated and transmitted
IGNOU’s marks transmission status page says that status appears after marks or grades are transmitted by the Study Centre or Regional Centre after evaluation. - Reflected in Grade Card
The Grade Card is the academic record students normally use to see the assignment component together with other evaluation components.
Check 1: do you have submission proof?
Start with the simplest question: can you show when and where the assignment was submitted? A stamped receipt, an online acknowledgement, an email acknowledgement from an official submission route, or another record from the Study Centre is useful because it establishes the submission event.
If you have no proof at all, do not jump straight to a central grievance. First ask the Study Centre whether your submission can be traced in its records. If you have a receipt, keep a clear photo or scan. Do not post your enrolment number or personal details publicly.
Check 2: is the marks transmission visible?
Open the official Assignment/Project/Practical Marks Transmission Status page and enter the requested details. This page is useful because it sits between “I submitted it” and “it appears in my Grade Card”.
If the course appears there, note the course code, session and status exactly as shown. If it does not appear, that does not by itself prove that the assignment was lost. It means you still need to confirm the evaluation/transmission stage with the Study Centre or the responsible IGNOU office.
Check 3: has the Grade Card updated?
Next, check the official IGNOU Grade Card. Match the programme and course code carefully. If the assignment component is visible there, the main academic-record problem may already be resolved even if another status page looks different.
If the transmission page shows the course but the Grade Card still does not show the assignment component, save both screens before you contact IGNOU. This makes your query much easier to understand.
What each mismatch usually means
| What you see | What to check next |
|---|---|
| You have submission proof, but no transmission entry | Ask the Study Centre whether the assignment was evaluated and whether marks were sent onward. |
| Transmission entry is visible, but Grade Card is not updated | Keep a screenshot of both pages and raise a focused marks-record query if the mismatch remains. |
| Grade Card shows the assignment component | Check the rest of the course components before assuming the course is complete. |
| Wrong course or session appears | Verify the course code, programme and assignment validity before raising a correction request. |
What evidence to keep before contacting anyone
- Assignment submission receipt or acknowledgement.
- A clear copy of the first page showing course code and enrolment details.
- Screenshot of the marks transmission status, if available.
- Screenshot of the Grade Card showing the missing or mismatched component.
- Your programme code, course code and the relevant session.
“Assignment marks missing for course MMPC-001” is easier to act on than a long message saying only that the Grade Card is wrong.
Where to contact first
For a submission or local evaluation issue, start with the Study Centre that handled the assignment. For an academic record problem that remains after marks have been transmitted, use the appropriate IGNOU student-support route. IGNOU lists separate contacts for assignment, project and practical marks on its contact page. If the issue cannot be resolved through the normal route, iGRAM is IGNOU’s grievance portal for registered students.
If your Grade Card says a course is not complete, read the related guide on identifying the missing evaluation component when it is published. You can also browse IGNOU Guides, check your programme, or return to the Vidyanik Blog for more student help.
Common questions
Does a submission receipt mean the marks must already be in the Grade Card?
No. It proves submission, not evaluation, transmission or final Grade Card updating.
Should I submit the same assignment again immediately?
Do not resubmit only because the marks are not visible. First confirm the submission record and the correct IGNOU route for your course.
Can iGRAM fix missing marks?
iGRAM can be used to lodge and track a grievance, but it is better to include clear proof and explain which stage is missing.
