IGNOU Admission Status with Control Number: What to Check When Admission Is Still Pending

Ankush

Quick answer

If your IGNOU admission is still pending and you only have a control number, application number or acknowledgement reference, use the Fresh Admission Portal first. The current IGNOU “Know Your Admission/Registration Details” service is mainly for learners who already have an enrolment number. A control/reference number can help identify the application or payment, but it is not the same as an enrolment number.

Control/reference details and enrolment number serve different stages

Detail When it is useful
Application/control/reference number Identifying the admission application, acknowledgement or related payment before full confirmation.
Fresh Admission Portal login Checking and completing the application process.
Enrolment number Identifying you as a confirmed learner and using many post-admission student services.

What to check while admission is pending

  1. Log in to the official Fresh Admission Portal.
Check whether the application shows any incomplete step, correction request or pending document/action.
  2. Check the acknowledgement.
Keep the application/reference details and the programme you applied for.
  3. Check registered email and mobile.
Admission confirmation and the enrolment number are communicated through the registered contact details.
  4. Do not use the post-admission status page too early.
If you do not yet have an enrolment number, the Admission/Registration Details service may not be the right place to check an application still under processing.

What “pending” does not tell you

A pending application can have different causes. Do not guess whether it is a document issue, payment issue or normal processing stage unless the official portal shows that information. Read the exact message in your account and act only on what the portal requests.

Avoid duplicate applications.

If your original application exists and payment/details are already attached to it, creating another application can make the situation harder to explain. Check the original record first.

If payment was deducted but the application is not confirmed

Keep the transaction reference, application/control number, programme and registered contact details. IGNOU’s admission FAQ specifically advises learners with payment/acknowledgement problems to provide transaction details and the control number when contacting the admission support route.

Do not send bank screenshots containing more information than needed. A transaction reference and the exact application details are normally more useful than exposing a full account statement.

When to raise a query

  1. Portal asks for a correction or document?
Complete that action in the admission account first.
  2. Payment problem or acknowledgement missing?
Use the official admission support route with transaction and application details.
  3. Admission confirmed?
Look for the enrolment number in email/SMS and then use the post-admission status services.
  4. Issue remains unresolved?
Use iGRAM with a short timeline and the correct proof.
After admission is confirmed

If you then cannot find the enrolment number, use the enrolment-number guide when it is published. You can also check Programmes, Study Materials and IGNOU Guides.
